Island is located within the natural reserve of Yum Balam. Until now,

Holbox
Island is part of the Natural Reserve
of Yum Balam. It is located off north-eastern
tip of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico and is
the only Island in the Caribbean that has more than 40 km of unspoiled
beaches. The sea in Holbox has countless shades of blue, playful dolphins,
gigantic fish and very pink flamingos.
In
this tropical paradise the temperature rarely rises above 86 (30°C)
or below 80 (25°C) throughout the year. Holbox island is a nature
reserve with only one small, authentic fishing village (also called Holbox)
where people enjoy a cheerful and simple lifestyle where its inhabitants
are determined to keep this paradise unspoiled.
The
closest international airport is in Cancun, with access to several airlines,
operating many schedule daily flights, and also several charter flights.
We can arrange transport from the airport to Mawimbi for 65 USD per person
(minimum 2 persons); the price for only one person is 120 USD. The transfer
could be shared and it is "one way". The private transfer costs
80 USD per person. The price includes taxi with A/C and ferry.
The
cheapest way to get to the island is by using bus connections, which connect
from Cancun to Chiquilà. You can take the bus from the Cancun Bus
Terminal at 7:30 am, 12:30 pm and 1.30 pm for approximately 6 USD.
If
you rent a car, you must enter the "180" toll-free road to Merida
(Libre). After approximately 80 km turn right towards Kantunilkin and
Chiquilà. The total distance is 170 km and it's about 2 hours and
30 minutes drive. In Chiquilà there are some parkings where you
can leave your car for 4 USD per day. Once you arrive at the Port of Chiquilá
you must take the collective ferry which connects Chiquilà to Holbox,
which costs 45 pesos per person.
Ferry schedule:
Chiquilà to Holbox: 6.00 - 8.00 - 10.00 - 11.00 - 12.00 - 14.00
- 16.00 - 17.00 - 19.00
Holbox to Chiquilà: 5.00 - 7.00 - 9.00 - 10.00 - 11.00 - 13.00
- 15.00 - 16.00 - 18.00
Alternatively,
you can take a private boat from the Port of Chiquilà, however,
the price is approximately 250 Pesos, but it can be shared among several
people if desired..
Finally, you can also reach Holbox from Cancun by plane, with AeroSaab

Here time obeys the weather and nature or better yet the sun and sea, since it has been
this way for more than 150 years. While here you're just enjoying the fresh breeze on your face,
your infinite view across the sea and the internal peace that enters our souls.
Keeping track of time here is not a priority. When you leave Holbox you realize that you still need
more time to see and enjoy everything that this beautiful small paradise has to offer, which means....
